Yoga came to Dawn in 2000, 2 years after she was struck with ill health. Coming from a Corporate background with British Airways, she had lost her job, pay and independence and her life was turned upside down.
Her Dad handed her a Yoga book and it took a while for her to even look at it, but being housebound she thought there was no harm in trying!
She went from strength to strength following the Yogic poses, breathing and philosophies which led her to want to study more about this thing called Yoga. She took Iyengar Teacher training in the UK and with her health robust once more, decided to do some travelling after completing her first work contract. She came to visit a friend in Barrie and decided this was home.
In 2005 Dawn took her 200hr Yoga Teacher training at Georgian College and in 2014 studied at the Welkin Yoga Institute to become a Comprehensive Yoga Therapist.
In 2017 she was very excited to be accredited with the International Association of Yoga Therapists and earned her certification as an C-IAYT and is moving towards offering more therapeutic sessions/classes and working more closely with other professionals to bring about health and healing through Yoga.
She is now part of the faculty of Georgian College on the 300hr Yoga Teacher Training Program and offers classes in and around Barrie. She also is the Program Co-Ordinator for the Center for Inner Freedom who provide Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy groups to the community led by Dr Reichmann in Barrie.
Dawn specialises in back issues, having had experienced herniated disks first hand, pain management and living in the moment with mindfulness techniques. She believes in teaching her classes so that students can experience Yoga on the mat and can then take the insights off the mat to live fuller lives with less suffering, in the present moment.
She is a fully qualified Fertility Yoga instructor helping those with fertility challenges and who have faced loss in moving forward with hope and is a certified Prenatal/Post natal Yoga instructor.
As a mother of 2 beautiful daughters, Shanti and Tashi, she believes that the next generation need Yoga more than ever and brings the philosophies and coping skills into her daughters lives whenever the opportunity arises.
She continues to study and educate herself in Yogic wisdom so that she can deal with the challenges of life in a more mindful way as well as be present for those joyful moments.
Thanks for reading - hope to see you soon. Namaste, Dawn
